Professor Amos Oyesoji Aremu (JP)

Professor Amos Oyesoji Aremu (JP) is a Counselling and Criminal Justice expert (with bias in Police Studies. He is an epitome of phenomenal learning, brilliance, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

Professor Oyesoji Aremu attended Baptist High School Iwo for his Secondary School Certificate (1979 – 1983) and for his Higher School Certificate (HSC)(1983 – 1985). Being a precocious child from birth, he graduated from high School in flying colours. Armed with his higher education certificate (9 ‘A’ Level points), he was promptly offered admission to study Guidance and Counselling at the University of Ibadan in 1985 from where he graduated and bagged the Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed) in 1988. His quest for deep knowledge motivated him to seek higher academic laurels at the same University (U.I) where he bagged an M.Ed and a Ph.D degree in 1990 and 1998 respectively. His academic dossier reveals him as a man of towering knowledge, erudition and productivity.

He had worked as a primary school teacher and a school counsellor in the secondary school before he was employed as Lecturer II on Nov 11, 1988 by the University of Ibadan, where he rose by dint of hard-work, commitment, doggedness and dedication through the ranks and became a professor in 2011.

Professor Oyesoji Aremu teaches Psychology in the Department of Guidance and Counseling University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a commonwealth fellow and a visiting Research fellow at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, University of Portsmouth, UK. He was also a visiting professor at Bells University, Ota- Ogun State; Nigeria. He is an Alumnus of Haggai Institute of Advanced Leadership Training, Singapore. He had delivered lectures at many seminars and had been a participant and discussant on different aspects of Educational/Correctional Psychology and Emotional Intelligence for military and paramilitary personnel at conferences organized by notable institutions such as The Army, The Nigeria Police and other allied agencies.

Professor Oyesoji Aremu has to his credit over 80 books and other publications.

Despite his commitment as an astute academic, Professor Oyesoji Aremu has a wide administrative and managerial experience in the University system. He has served in diverse capacities including on many university boards and committees. He served as Sub-dean Undergraduate, Faculty of Education (2001-2003); Staff Adviser, Nigerian Universities Education Students Association (2003-2005); Assistant Hall Warden, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall (2006-2007); Sub-dean Postgraduate, Faculty of Education (2008-2009); Assistant Warden (2008-2009) and Hall Warden; Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall (2009-2011). He is now the Deputy Director (Academic), Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Professor Aremu is a member of various local and international learned societies, such as the Counselling Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Psychological Association, the International Police Executive Symposium, the British Society of Criminology, and a Fellow, Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. This scholar of high international repute has got many distinctions and awards in the course of his career. In 2007/2008, he was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Academic Fellowship by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission at the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. Back home in 2010, this illustrious son of Ejigbo Local Government in Osun State was awarded with the Oyo State Youth Merit Award for his sterling contribution to the society.

Professor Aremu has travelled widely. He had been to countries like Singapore, India, United Kingdom, United States of America and South Africa.
